Me too Enid

I used to think about one day...
just not telling anyone and going off to some random place.
And I'd just disappear....

I baked again!

Sunday I took to the kitchen again.
I attempted these Cinnamon Swirls with a recipe once again found at The Gluttonous Vegan.
I will admit mine do not look like the ones on the link.

My first swirl left me feeling rather sick and I felt disappointed....butafter thinking about it that was after many mix samples and picking at other ingredients.

Today is a whole new story......... Swirly, Cinnamony, Vegany goodness.... nom nom nom.

My next vegan recipe will have to be something savoury otherwise I'll gain a 1000lbs!

Original Source

I've been looking for some vegan bath products to start replacing the current ones I use. I really want to get all my products vegan...... make-up (post coming soon) body lotion, lip balm, deodorant, body spray/perfume, shower gel etc etc.

Original Source products have been around for sometime yet foolishly I never knew they were vegan. Upon discovering this I've whipped up a few items to try out.

So far I have tried the Lime shower gel:

The smell is absolutely delicious. 40 limes are used in each bottle!!! Pretty amazing huh........ do you think it counts as one of your 5 a days??hehe
I really enjoyed using the product and will continue to try the other "flavours" however the only disappointing aspect is that I don't think the smell stays on your skin. I like coming out of the bath smelling like the product I've used, and I especially want to smell like 40 limes but alas it's not to be.

I've also used the Mint & Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner:
Once again the smell is stunning. It leaves my hair super shiny, smooth and as a bonus smelling lovely. I do find the it a little pricey, it's £1.99 for a 250ml bottle, which for me and my stupidly long hair will get used up pretty quickly. But I will definitely be buying this again.

I really hope Original Source expands their range to maybe produce larger bottles (their bottles are all totally recyclable too... bonus!) sprays, soap, and lotions etc. I can't even imagine how good their sprays would smell. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that these things are on the cards.

Can anyone recommend some vegan products which are easily available in the UK??

Never again

As I have mentioned several times, I am vegetarian with a strong interest in becoming vegan, I also always have the vegan option if there is one available.
My curiosity with being vegan means that whenever I see something that is suitable for vegans and I've never seen it before I get rather excited and I have to buy it so I can try it.
A couple of months ago I was in a local health store and came across this:
I was pretty dang excited.
Vegan - Check
Tofu - Check
Can - Check

Yes that's right I was super excited about finding tofu in a can. My experience with tofu so far has been nothing buy yumminess I have loved all the tofu dishes I have tried. I couldn't wait to try this.

Yesterday I got round to having a meal where I thought I could finally have that tinned tofu!

So I excitedly got the tin out of the cupboard and opened it. I was immediately hit by a smell. A smell that didn't make me think "hmmmmmm I'm hungry". More like a smell that made me think "uh oh this smells like cat food".

I fully peeled back the lid and looked inside. This is what I found:
After emptying out the contents, the tofu looked like flesh. Gone were the cute cubes or large blocks of tofu and here was flesh like jelly strips and cat food smelling tofu.

I decided to try some as I'm always determined to like whatever vegan bits I find.
I had one small bit, hmmmm interesting...... lets smell it again...........urgh..... ok another taste.....
no it's definitely bad.
Braised Tofu in a can unfortunately gets the thumbs down. I wont be buying this again. I actually feel a little scarred for life. Although I'm glad I tried it. I think it's important to try new things.

Still to test out is a can of faux duck and a can of nut luncheon, both vegan.
After yesterdays experience I'm a little worried about these............perhaps I'll wait a while hehe.

I baked :)

I made the most delicious cake yesterday using a recipe found here.

Apple butter and Cinnamon Vegan cake.

Mmmmmm Tasty.
My best friend and her hubby have just got their first house and I went there last night for dinner. She made homemade pizza so I decided to bake a cake to take there.

I was rather nervous as she's an amazing cook, and my attempts can be a bit disastrous. But this was the best looking and best tasting thing I've ever made so yay.

I would strongly recommend this whether you're vegan or not (it's only the soya milk that makes it vegan) but if you love cinnamon this is definitely for you.
It's really easy to make, super tasty, and animal friendly...... what more could you want!?!

Wednesday Wishlist

So I've been loving the extra funds lately although I'm not sure if it is worth the hideous job. It's been nice finally getting round to buying the things I've wanted to get for ages.

So as I'm a temp I get paid weekly which is lovely. Here are a couple of bits I might buy once pay day comes around.

*This lovely little dress:It's got cute little strawberries on it. Hopefully they'll still have my size and I can own it :) However I do wish this was a little longer.....why do all dresses these days have to be above the knee?

*Reading tickets:
I haven't been to a festival since 2007, and I'd kind of like to go. I REALLY want to see Weezer again, I've only seen them once before. They're a classic band, I'm a sucker for some geek rock. Even If I can't get weekend tickets I'm determined to get a Sunday day ticket!!!
I feel like I've gotten out of the camping nature and although the thought of going excites me, it also worries me slightly.....the toilets!! Why do they have to be so awful!?! I will say though that Reading 2007 was by far the best festival, it was so clean and well organised.

*Another cute dress:I have one similar to this but I'm too fat for it now. Plus this one seems like a longer length which I like (Shorter dresses like the first one I tend to wear over jeans) so I can feel vaguely summery in this one. The website states there's only one left so hopefully it will still be there when I want to buy it :)

That's all for this week. No doubt I'll buy loads of other bits, but for now these 3 will do hehe.

Why can't life be like the movies?

I wish I had a crazy scientist friend who had a time machine in the form of an awesome car.
I'd go back in time (break the rules) and give the younger me some advice. To study hard. I'm not naturally smart, but I'm sure if I'd have tried harder I could have done better.
Better in school, therefor better in college and then actually going to uni.

Or alternatively....
Travelling into the future and snagging one of these bad boys. Whoever says money doesn't buy you happiness, either hasn't brought the right stuff, or needs to go out and buy more hehe.

On a more serious not. My new job is making me feel like this:
I have this small brain that wishes it was something more.
I cannot stand working in an office, doing this meaningless bank related work.
It all seems so insignificant.
I know it sounds cheesy but I just wish I could have a job that meant something. I wish I had the brain capacity to do something better, or even just an idea of what I'd like to do so I could at least just try to do it.

Instead I have no idea what I'd like to do, no confidence that even if I did that I could actually do it, and a job that although I'm grateful to have doesn't give me any motivation to exist.

I feel frustrated by my own limitations!

Nom nom nom

Just had this AMAZING Brie, Spinach and Mushroom Wrap in a local Vegetarian & Vegan Cafe.
I wanted everything on the menu.
I'll be making it a weekly visit and my own personal mission to try everything on the menu hehe.

More veggie/vegan posts to come.

Sometimes..................

I get a little frustrated when the following occurs...
...
Blah blah blah chatter chatter.....
Me: I'm vegetarian
Person X: So do you still eat chicken/fish???

Vegetarian isn't a new concept. I don't understand the confusion that I seem to encounter all the time.

Vegetarian = No meat (anything with a face)
Vegan = No meat/Animal by products

Now I do understand that some might not know the ins and outs of veggies/vegans ie. veggies can't eat certain yogurts/cheeses etc
But I honestly don't understand why I am often asked if I still eat fish or chicken???
If I did I wouldn't be a vegetarian!?!

I very rarely tell people (new people I've met) that I'm vegetarian as for some reason it seems to offend others. It strange that in 2010 people are still baffled by the idea of it.

I am aware that there are some that do partake in eating fish, but they are not vegetarians they are Pescitarians.

Anyhoo that over, I'm currently reading a really interesting book which I shall blog about once it's finished :)

A quick overview

I feel like I don't have a spare minute now I'm working. I honestly don't know how people do it, I follow quite a few blogs where these gals, work and craft and go out and blog daily, I don't know how it's possible. When I get in from work, I have dinner, get the buns out and then I'm done hehe. I guess the heat hasn't helped my motivation.

So during the last week I didn't really get up to much apart from work, I think Tuesday my bf and I went and saw "The Karate Kid", which although I didn't hold high hopes for (I'm so fed up with all these remakes, if the films are classics, they're classics for a reason and shouldn't be messed with, why remake something that's already good!?!) anyhoo I was pleasantly surprised with this film. Although obviously the basics are the same as the original, they have changed a few elements which makes it a little refreshing. Plus I've been super emotional lately for some reason and have been crying easily...........can you believe I got teary at The Karate Kid, I hid it well as it was a tad embarrassing.

Friday night my bestie, her hubby and I went to see the twilight triple bill. Twilight and New Moon were shown back to back (I started to get rather sleepy during NM) then at 00:01 we saw Eclipse. I really enjoyed it. After being so disappointed with New Moon (although seeing it for the 2nd time at the cinema it was slightly better, but still pants in comparison to Twilight) but yes Eclipse was enjoyable, and I'm looking forward to the next ones.

Saturday my bf and I (plus his mates) went to a wedding reception which was rather enjoyable. I got a little upset beforehand about not having anything to wear and being fat and what not but it turned out OK in the end.
I actually completed a little achievement.... I wore a dress which ended above my knees.......yes that's right above my knees!!! I don't think I have in about 10+ years. I'm definately more comfortable with below the knees.

Sunday I did absolutely nothing except for spend quality time with my buns, as I've been getting really upset about how little I get to see him now and I feel like I'm neglecting him, and that he's miserable.

I've not got much planned for this coming week apart from a trip to the vets tomorrow. I'm quite looking forward to not doing much, although at some point I MUST tidy my room.

Hopefully a more interesting post coming soon!
